Severe ME Day

Severe ME Day is held each year on August 8th to honour the thousands of people in Aotearoa and around the world who live with the most debilitating forms of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME). It is a day of recognition, remembrance, and representation — acknowledging those who are housebound or bedbound, those who cannot participate in daily life, those whose voices are rarely heard in public spaces, and those we have sadly lost to complications of this debilitating disease. On this page, you’ll find links to each year’s Severe ME Day activities, stories, resources, and awareness campaigns. Together, these pages highlight the realities of severe ME, amplify lived experience, and strengthen our commitment to ensuring that even the most vulnerable members of our community are seen, valued, and supported.
